Though our mission is related to changes in instructional practices, we continue to work on student projects related to STEM in SVRTC school divisions.

NSFMarineTech

Through ITTIP and Old Dominion University, MarineTech, a NSF funded marine engineering exploration project, is entering its second year.  During this summer, students and teachers will work together to build a SeaPerch, an underwater robot.  Various instruments, such as camera, temperature probe or light meter, may be attached to the SeaPerch to collect data.

Digital Inspiration for Interactive Game Design and Program (Digispired i and ii):

Eighty five middle school students develop critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills by participating in game design and robotics activities.  Students attend workshops for two weeks in summer and about eight to ten Saturdays in fall and spring.  After exploring Kahootz, Squeak, and Alice, students are working with Flash till December 2009.  We are hoping Digispired ii will be funded by the NSF from 2010.
